Piper Aerostar Bell JetRanger and Piper Cheyenne As the use of aircraft continued to help expand the business the MPW fleet grew to include the companys 1st turboprop a Piper Cheyenne II PROFESSIONAL PILOT September 2016 67 So as soon as Black could arrange it MPW purchased its own Bell 206B JetRanger Everybody thought I was crazy but that helicopter was the tool that helped us grow the business Black says I could get in that helicopter in the morning and fly out to supervise job sites visit customers look at equipment and still get back in my office early enough to get other work done It was a true time machine MPW aviations growth As empowering as the JetRanger was it was only as good as its range and Ohios weather allowed So it wasnt long before Black added a Piper Aerostar 601P to the MPW fleet I just thought its another tool to help us grow and expand he explains Our pilot was cross trained and able to fly both aircraft which helped with the efficiency As MPWs travel needs continued to grow and evolve so did its flight department As the companys Director of Aviation Dan George says it wasnt long before their helicopter was replaced by a Piper Cheyenne II which was ultimately replaced by a faster longer range Cheyenne IIIA To keep pace with the companys continued expansion out of the central states the Cheyenne IIIA was replaced by a Citation V in 1995 Soon after the Aerostar was replaced with a Beechcraft King Air C90 giving MPW an aviation fleet that was all turbine powered In 2003 the Citation V was replaced by a new Citation Excel and in 2009 the King Air was replaced by a new Citation CJ3 In 2010 MPW traded in its Excel on a new Citation Sovereign which along with the CJ3 makes up the companys current fleet Each of the aircraft now logs about 250 flight hours a year The median trip distance is 300 nm for the CJ3 and 400 nm for the Sovereign Right aircraft for MPWs missions Today MPW Industrial Services has over 3000 employees 2000 vehicles and operates out of 72 locations across North America The company specializes in facilities industrial cleaning industrial water and support services for a variety of industries including steel production pulp and paper power generation and manufacturing Our aircraft use today has the same emphasis on serving our customers as it did in the beginning Black notes We can move our people quickly whether its responding to a new business opportunity or solving a customers problem However while the use of the aircraft remains pretty much the same Black is quick to point out that the value they deliver is even greater today than it was in the beginning I think when you talk about the value of the aircraft today versus back in Monte Black and his son Jared in 1982 in a Piper Aerostar MPWs 1st fixed wing aircraft MPW technician uses a single automated lance SAL 1 system to clean vertical tube bundles at an ethanol plant in Indiana In order to keep technicians safe MPW uses remote control wash down systems such as this RBX 40 to clean dangerous confined areas Cyclone cleaning system is used to optimize cyclones for re bricking of refractory at a power plant in Tennessee
